Graphical R44 Weight and Balance Calculator Tutorial
Download the Robinson R44 Quick Weight and Balance Calculator here. Internet Explorer users: after downloading the file, change the extension to .xlsx or .xls. This is not your typical “I made a spreadsheet!” calculator, and it may be helpful for you to watch a short tutorial on how to install and use it. If you have comments or corrections, post them on the release page.
Remember that the Graphical R44 W&B Calculator utilizes active content and macros in MS Excel 2007. You must enable those features for the graphs and optional equipment boxes to work properly. This is also a Beta version. It works great for me, so if you find problems let me know.

Conducting a Flight Review
My thoughts and some resources for conducting a flight review.
Aviation Instructor’s Handbook (aka, the Fundamentals of Instruction)
A not-so-very-good book on good teaching techniques. Maybe it’s improved in this issue of the Aviation Instructor’s Handbook. If you can get through the high science that is of interest mostly to PhD psych students, there’s some good stuff about teaching students to fly things. Available for free from the FAA, or by sending me an email if they shuffle their site around and you can’t find it.
Helicopter Instructor’s Handbook
Yes, there actually is a helicopter-specific resource out there for helicopter CFIs! Okay, it has it’s shortcomings–like trying to be everything for every helicopter. But at least this is one instance where we’re not relegated to being the bastard children of aviation. Even though I’d rather you utilize the lesson plans on this web site, I can slip you a pdf copy of it if you email me. If enough people bother me for it, I’ll just put a link to it here.
